#1: Attend a Large Festival/Event
Twelve years ago, I moved to New York. Guess what else happened 12 years ago? The very first Jazz Age Lawn Party - and I didn't get to go. I didn't go the second year, either. In fact, as each year ticked by, flappers and gents donned their best 1920's garb and hopped out to Governor's Island to join the party. Without me. Many sad faces were had....
Today I fulfilled a dozen years of Gatsby dreams! Today I was transported back to my favorite era! Today, joined by my former college buddy, James, I was finally, finally (!!!) part of the legendary soirée, surrounded by Art Deco lovers like myself, sipping cold rosé and picnicking in the summer sun while bouncing around to live, jazzy Swing music.
Absolutely heavenly!! It felt as close to Time Travel as we can get, every sight filled with sassy and frassy bits of a bygone era. Of course, there were vendors hoping we'd pony up for a piece of the past. And there were very long lines for food and drink (pro tip: pack your own picnic, as we did!) but overall, it was a brilliant way to spend a Saturday afternoon.
